  • Selenium. Selenium is necessary for the conversion of triiodothyronine to thyroxine. The ideal thyroid supplement should contain around 200 micrograms of selenium. However, avoid taking supplements with selenium if the cause of your hypothyroidism is severe iodine deficiency because it could worsen the hypothyroidism symptoms.
  • Zinc. Severe zinc deficiency can cause hypothyroidism. Regular intake of zinc can help prevent hypothyroidism and improve immunity. Thirty milligrams of zinc per day should be enough to help promote normal thyroid function.
  • Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium. The minerals calcium, magnesium, and potassium are all necessary for proper cell metabolism. The ideal dosage for these minerals are 800 to 1500 mg for calcium, 300 to 420 mg from magnesium, and 4 -5 grams of potassium per day.
